Puerto Princesa Day 1: City Tour, Iwahig Firefly Watching, Kinabuchs

5:03:00 AM

After half-a-year long of planning, we finally made it the City in the Forest, Puerto Princesa!

We based our activities on this itinerary. We weren't able to do the activities on the 4th day though because our flight was scheduled in the morning due to some constraints (like how the other scheduled flights are not part of the airline promo. hehe). We didn't stick to the time schedule too. We started some of the activities early and thank goodness we did because we spent a lot of time taking pictures.

City Tour

The inn we stayed at (Clouds Inn) contacted an accredited tricycle for our city tour. You can rent the inn's van for the tour if you want to. But we opted for the tricycle because it's way cheaper.

The driver charged us 800php for the city tour

Mitra's Ranch

There's a 10-peso entrance to the house. Don't forget to take your shoes off
Look at the invisible watermelon I am holding
Awyiss! A trampoline! Try it for 35php
There are other activities such as zip line and horse-riding

Baker's Hill

Weird looking Shrek family

Butterfly Garden

50php entrance.  Not a lot of butterflies

But there was this frame with rows of cocoons on it! It was so pretty

There was also a performance by local tribesmen
Meet their family pet

Crocodile Farm

Crocodile Farm was supposed to be our first destination but when we got there, we were too early for the next scheduled tour so we decided to head to the other tourist attractions first.

Be mindful of the schedule
Why are there so many crocodile farms in the  Philippines?
There's also a nature park. Nothing too interesting though
We tried the Crocodile Sisig and Tapa. There's nothing distinct about its flavour. If no one told me I was eating crocodile, I wouldn't know. Quite pricey too.

Before continuing with the tour, our driver suggested we go souvenir shopping first since it's along the way.

He brought us here
Look it! So many!

Plaza Cuartel

Next on the list was the Cathedral and Plaza Cuartel.

Cathedral

Plaza Cuartel
The names of the massacre victims. Found in Plaza Cuartel

Baywalk

And lastly, Baywalk.

Iwahig Firefly Watching

This particular attraction is one of my favourites. We rented another tricycle for the trip. The road there was dark and chilly. I was freezing during the commute. They say it only takes 30 minutes from the town proper to Iwahig but  it felt like more than that.

300php for the tour. Tricycle charged us 800php

When we got there, I was relieved to see that there were not a lot of people.

My friend isn't fond of the dark and the deep waters, hence, the face.
The best my camera could do. :))
Best Exhibit

Iwahig Firefly watching is a unique experience for me.You should definitely not miss this if you're in Puerto Princesa.

Kinabuchs

The thing to try at Kinabuch is the Tamilok. It was... not something I'd like to try again. Haha!

Why?!?

NO

They say that the best way to eat it is while it's fresh. You pluck it from a tree, dip it in vinegar (or the sea according to our driver), and devour it. They say you can taste a sweetness in it. Well, the dish we had at Kinabuch didn't have any hint of sweetness in it. Although, the lady did tell us (or was it warn us) that it wasn't fresh.

I told him to do a frustrated face. He failed miserably

And that ends our first day.

Day 2: Honda Bay, Kuyba Almoneca, Thalia's Chao Long
Day 3: Underground River, Ugong Rock, Kalui
